Medical Assistant - Career Choices

Job Description:

 

Medical Assistants (MAs) provide direct Patient Care in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, long term care and rehabilitation facilities.

Their training is more than what is required for a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and less than what is required Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

MAs (& LPNs) are licensed to pierce the patient's skin (CNAs are not).

MAs work under the direction of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Physicians. 

To Get Licensed:

  • WA state requirements for licensure: None

  • Once you graduate from the program you must take, and pass, the AAMA CMA Certification Examination. This test is administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
