Come join our team! **Job Summary** Prioritizes, coordinates and dispatches the lab assistant team for collection and processing functions in accordance with CHI-FH standards, protocols and regulatory requirements. Work involves assigning daily job duties to available staff to ensure that all patient care areas are covered and service is provided as needed, as well as providing ongoing assessment of workflow and staff adherence to processes/standards. An incumbent acts as a department resource in assessing sample viability and researching esoteric tests and collection/processing requirements. An incumbent works with department staff and Manager, Lab Operations to troubleshoot and resolve issues within scope of responsibility, or to forward issues to appropriate staff for resolution. Work requires: 1) ability to communicate effectively, 2) exemplify customer service and 3) knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements, and skills in using a laboratory information system. **Essential Job Functions** + The following section contains representative examples of job duties that might be performed in positions allocated to this job class. Performance standards developed for incumbents allocated to this job class may also contain relevant job content information and are referenced hereto. + Prioritizes, coordinates, and dispatches collections and processing functions for assigned department to available staff to ensure all patient care areas and/or patient service center are covered in a timely manner. + Acts as resource for department in researching esoteric tests, collection and processing requirements and assessing viability of samples for testing. + Assists in training and coaching staff in processing duties and preparing samples for testing and in the use of hospital and laboratory information system programs. + Ensures exemplary customer service and communication to include reporting laboratory results, taking verbal orders, transferring calls, describing specimen collection protocols, esoteric test research, troubleshooting issues and dispatching phlebotomist for collections. Completes follow-up protocol for any ambiguous orders or issues so that concerns are resolved. Maintains an audit trail. + * Accesses the CHI-FH test directory for accurate collection requirements and turnaround time. + * Communicates result information via phone, fax, or verbally. + * Clarifies patient test orders. + * Validates patient identify according to department standards. + Collaborates with management and /or PacLab marketing representative to troubleshoot issues and provide rapid response and resolution or to forward issues to appropriate CHI-FH staff member for resolution. + Provides on-going assessment of workflow and adherence to processes/standards and identifies areas for improvement. + Conducts site assessments for safety standards, facility cleanliness, and appearance. Documents findings and initiates follow-up actions. + Identifies clients who need additional tools, education and/or training in order to meet billing and collection requirements; initiates follow-up actions with PacLab marketing representative or management. + Acts as a resource during staffing shortages to perform order entry, processing and preparing samples. May perform venipuncture during staff shortages if currently certified as a medical assistant-phlebotomist. **Cultural Sensitivity and Competence:** Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served. Performs related duties as required. **Qualifications** **Education/Work Experience Requirements** + High school diploma (or GED equivalent) and three years of progressively responsible work experience in a clinical hospital setting that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities. + Completion of a phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technician course at a Vocational College or equivalent Technical school is preferred. Experience in Phlebotomy and/or Specimen Processing is preferred. **Licensure/Certification** + National registration in Phlebotomy or Laboratory Technology with the ASCP is preferred. + Current Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist preferred. **Job** Laboratory **Primary Location** WASHINGTON-BREMERTON-HARRISON MEDICAL CENTER **Daily Schedule** Varies **Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period** 80 **Weekends Required** Every **Req ID:** 2017-R0125885
