Job Description:   Essential Job Duties Primary responsibilities include but not be limited to the following: Prepare and teach on-campus and off-campus lecture, lab and/or clinical instruction in nursing, especially in medical/surgical areas. Teaching assignments are determined by college and program needs and/or the individuals background and experience and may include day, evening/night, online or occasional weekend classes and/or availability. Evaluate, develop, and modify curriculum to reflect current standards of nursing practice. Maintain or develop competence in current medical and educational technology. Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development and implement a current professional development plan. Participate in classroom, program, and college-wide assessment. Maintain student records according to college guidelines. Support students' academic success by maintaining regular office hours and advising students. Utilize effective computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Leaning Management Systems such as Canvas, email, and other information technology resources. Participate as an active member of working committees involving instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters, and college-related professional activities. Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a contributing member of the campus community. Maintain positive and effective communications with the healthcare education team, students, faculty, administration, and staff. Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student and staff diversity. Assume other duties and responsibilities as defined and agreed upon by the division chair or administrator and the faculty member.
Job Features:   Position Summary Big Bend Community College (BBCC) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenured Nursing Instructor.­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves over 5,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,100, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams Counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms. Big Bend Community College strives for excellence in teaching and learning. We are a student-centered and innovative college that is committed to fostering a community that supports and recognizes the value of diversity; 41% of our student-body is Hispanic. Recognized as a Leader College by Achieving the Dream, Big Bend is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Our Nursing Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the Washington State Nursing Quality Assurance Board. The program capitalizes on the use of modern technology, including utilization of high fidelity simulation. The program serves up to 24 students in each year of the two-year program and maintains a low student to faculty ratio. This position is part of the instructional team for Big Bend's "career ladder" healthcare program for those entering the nursing profession. This position is responsible for teaching in a variety of healthcare areas and situations through lecture, lab, and clinical instruction. The program's "career ladder" includes three levels of certification; the beginning level is a one quarter Nursing Assistant "(NA) class; after four quarters of programmatic instruction, students are eligible for the Practical Nursing (PN) certificate; the career ladder culminates at the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Required Skills:   Minimum & Desirable Qualifications At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications: A master's degree in Nursing or a bachelor's degree in Nursing with a graduate degree in a health or education-related field from a regionally accredited college or university. Candidates possessing a bachelor of science degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a MSN program or a graduate program in a health or education-related field at a regionally accredited college or university with completion expected by June 2020 will be considered. A current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in Washington State or be able to attain prior to employment. At least two years of full-time equivalent experience as a registered nurse or nurse educator and evidence of maintenance of clinical skills in nursing, particularly in medical and surgical areas. Experience working with students or patients from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Skills:   Additional desirable qualifications include: Teaching experience in a community college or post-secondary setting. Experience with implementation of strategies to improve student success and retention. Use of innovative teaching methods such as flipped model, team teaching, or using "active learning" based curriculum. Experience with data drive assessment. Demonstrated ability to work well with students and colleagues. Strong computer skills especially in accessing and utilizing computerized resources including computer applications for instructional purposes such as Internet resources, PowerPoint, Word, Canvas, and Outlook. Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
Education  Requirements:   A master's degree in Nursing or a bachelor's degree in Nursing with a graduate degree in a health or education-related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
